The Dissolved acetylene gas plant is fully automatic with twin hoppers and all the operations are performed automatically by pneumatically controlled valves assisted along with highly accurate sensors and integral with the temperature control instruments and needs an operator's attention for only ten minutes in an hour

these in turn open the water inlet valve or residue drain valve etc. Two hydraulic pumps help to open and close the supply of calcium carbide. This is fed into the generator by screw feed conveyors. The screw feed mechanism and the agitators are operated by flame-proof motors and fittings.

The entire operation is perfectly synchronized to give maximum efficiency and simplicity in operation. Any failure whether it is of power supply, water, instruments air, is signaled visually and also audibly when an alarm bell rings to alert the operator.

Only flame proof lights and electrical fittings according to IS21481-68 (Group II) or BSS-229 may be used in an acetylene plant building. Acetylene cylinders must be of specification IS: 7312: 1974 or ICC: 8.

The design of the entire plant has been made with safety in mind. Flash back arrestors, high pressure reverse flow check valves, auto vent valves, non-return valves and flash back arrestors are also provided to make this plant absolutely safe to operate in all conditions.

The gas produced is highly flammable and explosive, if mixed with air. Therefore various safety devices and automatic systems are incorporated to avert fire and/or explosion. These systems make the acetylene plant is highly sophisticated and safe equipment.

Process Description:

Oxyplants Dissolved Acetylene Generator is stationary carbide to water automatic generator. Acetylene is generated as a result of the chemical reaction between calcium – carbide and water. The by-product is calcium-hydroxide (lime slurry) which is continuously discharged from the generator. The acetylene gas produced in the generator is at 0.5 – 1.4 Kgs/Cm²g and passed through coolers, driers, purifiers to achieve purity and compressed in a Multi stage water immersed compressor. The compressed acetylene gas is filled into the cylinder in the filling manifold at 15 Kg/Cm²g and cooled by water spraying to achieve better absorption of gas in the acetone of the cylinders.

DISSOLVED ACETYLENE GAS PLANT DESCRIPTION & COMPONENTS:

MEDIUM PRESSURE STATIONARY ACETYLENE GENERATOR:

Carbide to Water type fitted with An Agitator and its Drive Unit, Screw Feed Mechanism and Hydraulic Disc Valve to Feed Carbide automatically, Two Flash Arrestors to prevent any gas back up. Three Safety Relief Valves.Two Numbers Vent Valves along with Accessories, Temperature Controller, Pressure Switches etc .Twin Hoppers for Feeding Calcium Carbide into Generator suitable to feed Calcium Carbide size 5 mm To 50 mm.


CONDENSER

Steel Vessel with tube arrangement for cooling of Gas.


LOW PRESSURE DRIER

Vertical Steel Vessel fitted with Half Circle perforated M.S. Plates filled with Hydrous Calcium Chloride.


ACETYLENE PURIFIER

Large Vessel divided into two sections by wire mesh Frame work. Each Section is charged with Purifying Mass to absorb Gases like Hydrogen Sulphide, Phosgene etc.


AMMONIA SCRUBBER

Vertical Vessel fitted with Level Gauge and Water Make Up Line. The Acetylene Gas is bubbled in the Vessel to Scrub Water Soluble impurities like Ammonia & to facilitate compression of Acetylene Gas by making it wet.


ACETYLENE COMPRESSOR

Reciprocating Piston type, Oil Lubricated Water Submerged with Safety Valves, Pressure Gauges, and Moisture Separators, and Flame Proof Motor with Pulley, Pneumatically Pressure controlled. All the stages of the Compressor are provided with Pressure gauges to monitor the inter-stage pressure.


HIGH PRESSURE DRIERS

It consists of multi vessel dries filled with M.S. Chain packing and Anhydrous Calcium Chloride with Non- Return Valve and Pressure Regulating Valve and are fitted with a drain valve to drain off moisture collected at periodically.


ACETYLENE FILLING MANIFOLDS

Fitted with Filling Connections, Flash Back Arrestors, Pressure Gauges And Non-Return Valves to fill acetylene gas in to cylinders.


FILLING MANIFOLD for O2/N2

For filling high-pressure gas Oxygen/Nitrogen into gas Cylinders.


ACETYLENE TESTING APPRATUS

To Measure the Purity of Gas Acetylene after Purifier & Compressor.


DRAIN BACK MANIFOLD

To take back the Acetylene gas to the system from the Leaking and Defective Cylinders.

ACETONE CHARGING SYSTEM/ ACETONE PUMP.

It is Pressure Vessel filled with acetone and pressurized by Nitrogen/Acetylene Gas and pumped to Acetylene Cylinders. This system is having pressure Gauges, Safety valves, Control Valves Nitrogen & Acetone filling ports, High Pressure Acetylene filling line to connect Acetylene Cylinders.


WATER PUMP

To feed process water to the Acetylene Generator and cooling water to Condenser, Ammonia Scrubber, Acetylene Compressor and Acetylene Gas filling system fitted with Flame Proof Motor.


FLAME PROOF PRESSURE SWITCHES & ACCESSORIES

To control the Pressures inside the generator & Acetylene Compressor.
